Cambridge Mobile Telematics Receives 2025 Smart City Product of the Year Award
DriveWell Engage honored for advancing safer, more sustainable mobility
Cambridge, MA – November 24, 2025 — Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), the world’s largest telematics service provider, today announced that its DriveWell Engage platform has been named a 2025 Smart City Product of the Year by IoT Evolution World. The annual award recognizes companies and solutions using connected technologies to enhance safety, efficiency, and quality of life in cities worldwide.
DriveWell Engage combines AI, behavioral science, and engagement to transform how people drive. Within weeks, it reduces distraction, hard braking, and speeding. By connecting safer driving with sustainability, the platform helps cities cut crash rates, congestion, and emissions at scale.
CMT’s research shows that engagement is a critical lever for road safety. Drivers who regularly interact with their safe driving app are 65% safer overall and maintain stronger improvements over time. The most engaged risky drivers have 20% less distraction, 9% fewer hard-braking events, and are involved in 5.5% fewer injury claims after just three months in a telematics program. By encouraging drivers to engage in these programs, DriveWell Engage helps cities and insurers sustain long-term safety gains.
CMT recently introduced major updates to DriveWell Engage with Universal Rewards and Family Connect, two innovations that make the platform even more effective at improving safety and engagement across every driver segment.
Universal Rewards uses behavioral science and AI to motivate all drivers, not just those in UBI programs, with small, frequent incentives that reinforce safe habits. Early results show 94% of users engage with rewards three times a week, while risky drivers improved hard braking by 25% and distraction by 43%.
Family Connect gives families who opt in peace of mind while loved ones are on the road — letting parents see when teens arrive safely, view their trip feedback, and have better conversations about safe driving at home.
DriveWell Engage’s Eco Score and Fuel Score features encourage drivers to lower their fuel consumption and carbon footprint. In European programs, the top 5% of drivers saved more than €400 per year and reduced emissions by 30%. The most engaged drivers in CMT-powered programs have cut their risk of a bodily injury crash by more than 5%.
“DriveWell Engage shows how data, AI, and behavioral science can come together to improve mobility for everyone,” said William V. Powers, Co-founder and CEO of Cambridge Mobile Telematics. “By transforming the way people drive — and with new innovations like Universal Rewards and Family Connect — we’re helping cities reduce crashes, emissions, and congestion, all while making daily travel safer and more sustainable.”
“The solutions selected for the Smart City Product of the Year Award reflect the diverse range of innovation driving the multi-billion dollar IoT market today. It is my honor to congratulate Cambridge Mobile Telematics for their innovative work and superior contribution to the rapidly evolving IoT industry,” said Rich Tehrani, CEO of TMC, a co-publisher of IoT Evolution World.
“It is my pleasure to recognize DriveWell Engage, an innovative solution that earned Cambridge Mobile Telematics the 2025 Smart City Product of the Year Award,” Carl Ford, Community Developer, IoT Evolution World. “I look forward to seeing even more innovation from CMT in the future.”
Built on insights from tens of millions of drivers globally, DriveWell Engage powers programs for leading insurers, automakers, and mobility providers. CMT’s platform has measured and protected more than 55 million drivers and helped prevent over 100,000 crashes around the world.
