TIME names CMT.AI’s StreetVision one of 2026’s best inventions
The AI road safety platform recognized for giving transportation agencies visibility into risky driving
Cambridge, MA — October 15, 2026 — CMT.AI, the world’s largest telematics and AI company for safer mobility, today announced that StreetVision, the first AI road safety platform to predict and prevent crashes, has been named one of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026 in the Transportation category.
For more than 25 years, TIME’s Best Inventions list has recognized the products, software, and services shaping the world, from scientific and technological breakthroughs to innovations that make life better and smarter. To compile this year’s list, TIME solicited nominations from TIME editors and correspondents around the world. TIME editors selected 300 groundbreaking inventions.
StreetVision gives state and local agencies a daily read on distraction, speeding, and hard braking, from highway corridors to school zones and work zones. It also merges federal and state crash records with real-time behavioral data at the intersection level — a first for road safety.
Crash reports remain the foundation of road safety planning. They also arrive months or years late, cover only incidents that generated a report, and say nothing about the behavior that came before. Officials could see where fatal crashes occurred. They could not see where people nearly avoided one.
“The next era of road safety will be defined by what we can prevent, not what we can count,” said William V. Powers, Co-Founder and CEO of CMT.AI. “Since the beginning of the automobile, the world has responded to crashes after they happen. StreetVision changes the sequence for the first time in over 100 years — it reveals where crashes are most likely to happen next, so the world can act before they do. This is the future of mobility we’re building at CMT: preventing crashes before they happen, so everyone can make it home safe.”
StreetVision pairs behavioral analytics with geospatial intelligence. Agencies use interactive heatmaps and Google Maps Street View to find hot spots, see driving behavior, and compare conditions before and after a countermeasure. The results also serve as proof points in federal safety grant applications.
StreetVision is available to state and local transportation agencies, including departments of transportation, traffic safety commissions, and city planners. Agencies can learn more at www.cmt.ai.
