Hellas Direct and Cambridge Mobile Telematics Partner to Bring Innovative Telematics Smartphone Application to Greece [PR Newswire]

July 26, 2016

CAMBRIDGE, MA, July 26, 2016 – Hellas Direct, one of the fastest growing car insurance companies in Greece, and Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), a leading global telematics technology and service provider, launched a new mobile app and first-of-its-kind driving competition in Greece. The app is available to all WIND mobile customers in Greece, and the top rated drivers can win prizes including a VIP trip for four to the F1 Grand Prix in Monaco.

The WIND Driving Challenge app runs in the background, automatically measuring driving data including speed, acceleration, hard turning, harsh braking, and phone distraction while driving. At the end of each trip, users can view their driving habits, including a one to five-star trip rating, a map of their route, and an overall driving score. Interactive leaderboards and achievements in the app show users their ranking among other drivers in Greece. Drivers can also invite friends and family to compete and use the app.

According to the Global Status Report on Road Safety assembled by the World Health Organization in 2015, over 1.25 million people die from traffic-related accidents each year, with millions more sustaining serious injuries. In Greece alone, there are an estimated 9.1 road traffic fatalities for every 100,000 people annually. Because of this major issue, improving driver safety is a primary goal for both organizations.

“We continuously strive to offer services and products to our customers that will assist them in being better drivers,” said Alexis Pantazis, Executive Director of Hellas Direct. “Partnering with Cambridge Mobile Telematics brings us closer to achieving this goal by equipping our customers with the latest technologies to increase their safety while driving.”

Cambridge Mobile Telematics has developed several behavior-based technology solutions for major insurance providers across the world. “Our vision at Cambridge Mobile Telematics is to make driving a safer experience for everyone,” said Hari Balakrishnan, Chief Technology Officer of Cambridge Mobile Telematics. “Building on our successes with similar programs in other countries, the WIND Driving Challenge competition puts our technological advances in mobile sensing, machine learning, and behavioral science directly in the hands of drivers and encourages substantial improvement through awareness and incentives.”
