Cambridge Mobile Telematics Wins 2026 Edison Award Gold for DriveWell Atlas

April 17, 2026

The first AI foundation model for mobility is recognized for advancing public safety through breakthroughs in crash prediction, prevention, and response

Cambridge, MA — April 17, 2026 — Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), the world’s largest telematics and AI company for safer mobility, today announced that it has been named a Gold winner in the 2026 Edison Awards in the Urban Signal Intelligence category, part of the Public Safety, Security, and Digital Integrity class. The award recognizes DriveWell® Atlas, the first AI foundation model built for mobility, for delivering real-world impact on road safety through a new class of AI.

The Edison Awards are among the world’s most prestigious innovation honors, recognizing excellence in new product and service development across industries ranging from transportation and artificial intelligence to healthcare and energy. This year’s winners were selected from more than 40,000 nominations spanning 20 countries, with finalists evaluated by a panel of senior business executives, academics, and innovation leaders. The 2026 awards were presented at the Edison Awards Gala in Fort Myers, Florida.

“CMT exists to make the world’s roads and drivers safer, and every crash we help prevent reflects the work of partners, engineers, and scientists who share that mission,” said William V. Powers, Co-Founder and CEO of CMT. “DriveWell Atlas is a foundation model we’re building for the next decade of road safety — a new way of understanding how the world moves so we can protect more lives, strengthen more communities, and help every driver get home safely. This recognition belongs to every person on our team and every partner working alongside us to solve one of the world’s most urgent problems.”

DriveWell Atlas marks the first application of the foundation model approach — the AI breakthrough behind modern language and vision systems — to the physics of mobility. DriveWell Atlas learns the underlying physics of force, motion, and trajectory to understand not just what happens on the road, but why. It detects new patterns of risk that traditional models miss, from defensive braking to side-swipe collisions, enabling insurers and mobility providers to predict, prevent, and respond to risk with greater precision.

DriveWell Atlas harmonizes data across every source in the DriveWell Fusion platform — smartphones, CMT’s proprietary Tags, connected vehicles, dashcams, and third-party sensors. It delivers a consistent interpretation of driver behavior no matter where the data originates, providing novel insights into the behaviors that cause crashes. “The Edison Awards honor visionary thinkers and innovations that deliver measurable results,” said Frank Bonafilia, CEO of the Edison Awards. “DriveWell Atlas stood out for applying the foundation model approach to mobility in a way that directly helps prevent crashes and save lives.”
