Detroit, MI & Cambridge, MA – May 14, 2025 — Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), the world’s largest telematics provider, today announced that it will be the title sponsor of The Kiefer Foundation’s “Swing for Safe Driving” Ball Golf Tournament for the fourth year in a row. The event, which raises critical funds and awareness for hands-free legislation and road safety initiatives, including the recently launched Just Drive Simulator, which enables participants to safely experience the consequences of distracted driving in a simulated environment. For the seventh consecutive year, this event will be held at the historic Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan on May 19.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to driving real change on America’s roads. The need is urgent: NHTSA estimates that distracted driving killed over 12,400 people in 2021, on par with drunk driving. The Kiefer Foundation, founded in memory of Mitchel Kiefer, is a prominent voice in the fight against distracted driving. With support from CMT, the Foundation has helped educate lawmakers on the importance of passing hands-free laws by providing real-time, data-driven insights on distracted driving trends.

“We are pleased to continue our partnership with CMT, a global leader in the mission to make the world’s roads safer,” said Steve Kiefer, Chairman of The Kiefer Foundation. “Our work with CMT has been critical in supporting the passage of hands-free legislation. Thanks to CMT’s insights, we can show lawmakers—and the public—that hands-free laws save lives. In Michigan alone, the new law has helped prevent over 14,000 crashes, 7,800 injuries, and 60 fatalities since it began June 30, 2023.” Mr. Kiefer will present CMT’s latest update for Michigan’s hands-free law at the opening ceremony.

“The Swing for Safe Driving Ball Golf Tournament is about far more than golf,” said William V. Powers, Founder and CEO of CMT. “It’s a call to action to make our roads safer. The Kiefer Foundation has been a relentless advocate in support of hands-free laws, and we’re proud to stand with them. Every day, CMT’s technology prevents crashes, protects drivers, and provides the insights that help pass hands-free laws and save lives.”
