Cambridge Mobile Telematics Highlighted on TIME’s List of Best Inventions of 2025

October 9, 2025

Cambridge, MA, October 9, 2025 — Today, the editors of TIME announced that Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), the world’s largest telematics service provider, has been recognized on the TIME list of Best Inventions of 2025 for its DriveWell Fusion® Platform. The annual list honors 300 groundbreaking inventions and 100 special mentions that represent the most impactful technologies and ideas shaping the world today.

The DriveWell Fusion Platform transforms global road safety through advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and telematics developed from pioneering research at MIT. The platform introduced breakthrough AI to mobility, fusing data from smartphones, Tags, connected vehicles, dashcams, and third-party devices into a unified view of driver, vehicle, and road risk. It leverages machine learning, deep learning, transformers, and graph neural networks to deliver predictive, real-time insights that lead to fewer crashes, fewer injuries, and faster help after an accident.

“DriveWell Fusion is one of the most important inventions in mobility today. It helped create an entire industry — powering over 140 telematics programs around the world, protecting more than 55 million people, reducing risky driving, helping prevent over 100,000 crashes, and getting people life-saving help after a crash,” said William V. Powers, Co-Founder and CEO of CMT. “With hundreds of patents across the platform, it represents years of innovation at the intersection of AI and mobility. But we’re only just getting started. Our roots in mobility research continue to drive new breakthroughs that are making roads safer and transforming how the world moves.”

For over two decades, TIME has solicited nominations from its editors and correspondents around the world, as well as an online application process, to compile the TIME’s Best Inventions issue. For the 2025 list, TIME paid special attention to growing fields — such as health care and artificial intelligence — and evaluated each contender on a number of key factors, including originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact. Past winners include the iPhone, ChatGPT, and the Large Hadron Collider.
