Oklahoma Challenge and Cambridge Mobile Telematics Launch 2025 Safe Teen Driver Contest to Reduce Crashes Among Young Drivers
Statewide competition encourages young drivers to build safer driving habits
NORMAN, Okla. & CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— October 28, 2025 — The Oklahoma Challenge, a statewide traffic safety program focused on reducing teen crashes, and Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), the world’s largest telematics service provider, today announced the launch of the 2025 Oklahoma Challenge Safe Teen Driver Contest.
The contest engages Oklahoma’s young drivers in a friendly competition to build safer habits and earn prizes for responsible behavior behind the wheel. Using CMT’s DriveWell Go™ app, participants receive feedback on key risk factors such as speeding, hard braking, and phone distraction, major contributors to teen crashes.
The competition runs from October 27 through December 6, 2025, awarding more than $5,500 in cash prizes to the safest drivers. The safest driver will earn a $500 grand prize, with additional awards for two $20 daily winners, biweekly winners, and $100 round prizes.
“Oklahoma Challenge is committed to creating a safer Oklahoma by helping teen drivers develop safe habits on the road,” said Lori Lovett, Director of the Oklahoma Challenge. “Teaming up with CMT for this competition offers a unique opportunity to highlight the dangers of distracted driving and empower young drivers to make lasting improvements behind the wheel.”
For the past two years, the Oklahoma Challenge and CMT have worked together to improve driving safety across the state, achieving measurable and lasting results. During the 2023 Oklahoma Challenge Contest, distracted driving decreased by 17% and speeding by 21%, contributing to an overall 18% reduction in risky driving behaviors.
The 2024 contest showed even greater progress. Forty percent of participating drivers reduced risky driving by at least 10%, with distracted driving declining 30% and speeding dropping 35%. Drivers who engaged most frequently with the program recorded the largest improvements, significantly reducing distraction, speeding, and hard braking.
If these results extended across all Oklahoma teen drivers, they could prevent an estimated 300 crashes, 165 injuries, and save at least one life annually.
“This is one of the nation’s longest-running data-driven teen driving programs using real-time feedback to improve road safety,” said Ryan McMahon, Senior Vice President of Strategy at Cambridge Mobile Telematics. “Each year, we see how technology and engagement can help young drivers develop safer habits that last well beyond the contest.”
How It Works
Teen drivers ages 16–22 who are enrolled in school can participate by downloading the DriveWell Go app from the App Store or Google Play and entering the Oklahoma Challenge token. The app automatically detects driving activity, measures key behaviors, and provides personalized feedback to help drivers improve their focus and awareness.
Participants can monitor their progress through leaderboards and earn chances to win cash prizes throughout the competition period.

About The Oklahoma Challenge
The Oklahoma Challenge project began in 1984 to address the dangers of teen drunk driving and encourage young drivers to wear seat belts. Following great success in these areas, Oklahoma Challenge turned its attention to a rising concern – the dire problem of distracted driving, especially among people 16-24 years old. Working in partnership with Oklahoma student groups, Oklahoma Challenge now educates novice drivers about the dangers of engaging in distracting activities – such as texting, talking on the phone, and interacting with passengers – while driving.
The Oklahoma Challenge is unique from other initiatives. Not only do we successfully train thousands of Oklahoma middle, high, technical school, and university/college students on traffic safety and gain their personal commitment to driving safely, but we also provide support, motivation, and incentives to empower the students to share this message with their peers, their families, their schools, and their entire community. The outcome of this personal commitment and then expanded sharing of this message is that thousands of additional Oklahomans hear this message in a personal, meaningful way, from people they know and care about, leading not only to newly acquired traffic-safety information but to true safe driving behavior change. The Oklahoma Challenge’s mailing address is PO Box 6362, Norman, OK, 73070.
