Cambridge Mobile Telematics Expands DriveWell Engage with Universal Rewards and Family Connect
New features help insurers and mobility providers motivate safer driving and strengthen engagement across every driver segment
Cambridge, MA – November 13, 2025 – Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), the world’s largest telematics service provider, today announced new enhancements to DriveWell Engage, introducing Universal Rewards and Family Connect, two innovations that motivate safer habits, deepen driver engagement, and reduce road risk.
CMT’s research shows that engaged drivers are safer drivers. Drivers who regularly interact with their safe driving app are 65% safer overall, and improve over time. The most engaged risky drivers are 20% less distracted, have 9% fewer hard-braking events, and are involved in 5.5% fewer injury claims after just three months in a safe driving program. Highly engaged drivers are also 30% more likely to be active in a safe driving program 6 months later, strengthening safety outcomes and customer retention.
Universal Rewards brings engagement best practices to every driver, not just those enrolled in usage-based insurance (UBI) programs. It leverages behavioral-science principles and artificial intelligence to help every driver improve by delivering small, frequent rewards that reinforce safe driving, sustaining engagement and risk reduction across more drivers. Early results show 94% of users engage with Universal Rewards three times per week, significantly higher than industry averages, and risky drivers improved hard braking by 25% and distraction by 43%.
Family Connect gives families who opt in peace of mind while loved ones are on the road. Parents can use Family Connect to see where their teen is, know they’ve arrived safely, and understand how they’re driving. By combining real-time updates, trip insights, and personalized feedback, Family Connect creates a complete driver story that helps teens become safer, more confident drivers, and supports meaningful conversations about safe driving at home.
The latest DriveWell Engage updates introduce significant platform enhancements that make it easier to educate and engage drivers, and measure the results. New messaging programs unlock rapid A/B testing, identifying the messages that are most effective for driving engagement and behavior improvements. Weekly driving highlights give drivers personalized driving summaries, raising weekly engagement by 5%. A new analytics dashboard helps measure and optimize safe driving program impact, from engagement to retention to behavioral changes.
“For more than a decade, CMT has shown that engagement is the key to safer roads,” said Dr. Hari Balakrishnan, Co-Founder and CTO of Cambridge Mobile Telematics. “But for years, the focus in telematics has been on measuring risk and delivering personalized pricing. With these new innovations, we’re using engagement to reshape behavior. With DriveWell Engage, we’re helping drivers everywhere build safer habits through connection, encouragement, and trust, creating safer roadways around the world.”
Beyond DriveWell Engage, CMT continues to introduce new innovations across its broader telematics platform.
Tag+ already gives insurers the ability to price risk without requiring a connected phone. CMT is now extending these capabilities to crash detection, enabling crashes to be identified and analyzed post-trip even when no phone is present. The company has also refined its crash models, improving real-time accuracy and providing faster, clearer insight when collisions occur.
CMT has continued to advance its industry-leading driver/passenger classification intelligence with new algorithm improvements. A Penn Medicine study validated CMT’s earlier driver/passenger algorithms at 97% accuracy.
To help partners innovate faster, CMT has introduced a new Software Development Kit (SDK) API architecture that enables developers to integrate features such as crash assistance and UBI programs with greater speed, reliability, and scalability. This helps auto insurers and mobility providers deliver safer, more seamless experiences to millions of drivers worldwide.
